Bakshi was a title given by the Gajapati of Puri to his military commander in chief. It was the rank second only to the king. As per the title the Bakshi’s of Orissa have always served Orissa. From the gallant, brave, fearless Bakshi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Mohapatra Brahmabar Rai, one of the earliest freedom fighters of India, whose leadership and organisational capabilities gave birth to the great Paik Rebellion in 1817 against British rule, to late Prof BJB Mohapatra an epitome of education, who enriched the life of many with his selfless devotion to education. Carrying this legacy forward, with a passion for serving humanity, the foundation for Bakshi Foundation Trust has been laid.

The Foundation, a Not for Profit, Non Government Organization, is registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882.
